Coverage mid-IR supercontinuum laser (Image: Novae)Novae (Saint Martin le Vieux, France), a startup company that develops and manufactures ultrafast pulsed lasers for scientific, industrial, and medical applications, has closed a financing round for 1 million Euros through investment Funds including IRDInov (Toulouse), DYNALIM (Limoges), and Finance Utile (a crowdfunding platform). This financing round has also been subscribed by historical Novae’s shareholders and Limousin Business Angels (Limoges).Industrial and surgical uses Founded in 2013, Novae makes high-reliability lasers intended for organic-materials micromachining and biological-tissue surgery. For example, organic substrates for future electronic components are a target for micromachining using Novae's lasers. The company will be exhibiting a mid-IR broadband fiber laser, called the Coverage, at SPIE Photonics West 2016 (Febuary 13 to 18, 2016; San Francisco, CA). The laser emits a supercontinuum spectrum over wavelengths from 1.9 to 3.9 µm with total output power of 2.2 W. Novae has an exclusive worldwide license for patented technology from CNRS, Limoges, and Rouen University. Novae says that some of its femtosecond-laser systems have already been acquired by clients in Europe, North America, and Brazil. Novae’s operating team is based in Saint Martin le Vieux near Limoges, France and includes former professionals from Alphanov, Amplitude Systèmes, FCI Connectors, CORIA, and XLIM research labs.Pilot production line “This new financial round is a turning point for the development of Novae towards the market for micromachining of organic polymers and new-generation materials used for electronic applications," says Nicolas DUCROS, Novae’s president. "Industrial companies in Germany and Japan have already expressed a strong interest for the potential of Novae’s technology. Today's invested funds will allow the release of this potential through new application developments with technological and industrial partners, and, the setup of a pilot industrial production line.” For more info, see http://www.novae-laser.com/en/ Source: Novae
